Let’s begin with an analogy.
In polite conversation between two or more people, only one person talks at a time. This allows the others to hear and understand the conversation.
In a similar manner, on most networks there should be only one device sending information at any time.
If more than one device sends information at the same time, then the two will interfere with each other and both messages will be garbled.
